About Us

Six Brunton Place is a Georgian Townhouse, designed by William Playfair and built on 1825. The house has been restored retaining its beautiful original marble fireplaces, ornate cornices and a magnificent cantilevered stone staircase rising within the 30ft high flagstone entrance.

Each room has been decorated in a different authentic Georgian colour. This. combined with contemporary lighting and a blend of both traditional and modern furnishings makes each room individual in character./p>

History
Frederick James Ritchie, one of Scotland's most famous clock-makers, who designed the mechanisms behind the Capital's One o'Clock Gun and Time Ball, lived here at 6 Brunton Place for more than 40 years.
Ritchie was also a close friend of telephone pioneer Alexander Graham Bell, and it is likely the pair discussed inventions here at the house. The clockmaker would have known about Greyfriars Bobby, as his uncle Robert Ritchie who lived at 28 Candlemaker Row, fed and sheltered the terrier. The plaque can be seen by the main door entrance of Six Brunton Place
